Equity and Empowerment for All: Women at the Frontlines of Children’s Rights
March 10, 2025
ARCSEA Statement in commemoration of International Women's Day 2025

On this International Women’s Day, we recognize and celebrate the vital role of women in advancing children’s rights and preventing violence and exploitation across communities in Southeast Asia and the rest of the world. Everywhere, women serve as protectors, educators, advocates, and change-makers, tirelessly working to create safer and more equitable spaces for children to grow, learn, and thrive.
From social workers and teachers to healthcare providers and grassroots organizers, women are leading efforts to break cycles of abuse, ensure access to education, and demand justice for all vulnerable children.
Women, too, serve as breadwinners, many of whom leave their families to work abroad in order to provide for the basic needs of their children.
Their work is the backbone of child protection systems, yet many still face barriers such as gender-based discrimination, lack of resources, and systemic inequalities that limit their ability to create change.
True equity means ensuring these women are not only recognized for their contributions but also empowered with the support, training, and opportunities needed to sustain and expand their impact. When women have access to leadership roles, financial independence, and decision-making power, entire communities benefit—especially children, who rely on strong, resilient, and empowered caregivers and advocates.
On this International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to gender equity and to amplifying the voices of women who are shaping a brighter future for children. By standing with them, investing in their leadership, and dismantling the structural barriers they face, we can build a world where all children are free from violence, exploitation, and harm. Because when women thrive, children and communities flourish.
