PAMANA: Greening the Future for the Next Generation aims to spread awareness on climate change and the environment and promote urban gardening within the framework of agro-ecology to address food insecurity and promote environment-conscious and climate-conscious practices at the community level.

Specifically, engaged with at least 30 parents/ caregivers of Grades 4-6 students and 25 students of Grades 4-6 students of Kalantiyaw Elementary School, which is located in Barangay Bagumbuhay, Project 4, Quezon City.

They were trained on the basics of urban gardening, the production of organic inputs using household and garden waste, and climate change. Low-income households in close proximity to the partner institution were prioritized.  We collaborated with Kalantiaw Elementary School, an academic institution within the barangay and the Barangay LGU  to ensure the project’s effectiveness and inclusiveness.

Barangay Bagumbuhay and Kalantiaw Elementary School were chosen in order to give back to the community where the ARCSEA office has been based for most of its 20 years.

As a tangible outcome of our efforts, we were able to establish a community garden in the spaces provided by the school. Participants were assigned plots where they grew and harvested fresh produce. We provided technical support to the participants so that sustainable gardening practices such as companion planting and rainwater harvesting can be employed. We also organized follow-up sessions for knowledge sharing and support among the participants.

Ultimately, our project aimed to cultivate an environmentally conscious community that is actively engaged in mitigating climate change.
